Welcome to Concord

Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County, with an estimated population of 123,000. It's relatively spread out over thirty square miles, consisting of residential, industrial and retail, as well as numerous parks and undeveloped land. The downtown area houses Todo Santos Plaza, as big as a city block, it's known for its farmers market and free summer concerts. Sunvalley Mall is also located in Concord along with the Round Table Pizza headquarters and larger offices for companies like Chevron and Bank of America. Concord Pavilion serves as one of the Bay Area's larger concert venues and Six Flags Waterpark in Concord is also a destination spot for many Bay Area residents.

Concord was originally established as a large agricultural area and historically known for its production of wheat and walnuts. The area has hot, dry summers from June through September and typically cooler, wet winters. It's been known to get up over 100 degrees in more recent summers, so it's not surprising to find homes equipped with air conditioning and built-in pools.

Concord remains a good option for Bay Area commuters as it's easily accessible by BART (the North Concord/Martinez BART station) and numerous bus options. Highways I-680, 4 and 242 all serve Concord and the surrounding areas.

In addition to the public Mount Diablo School District, Concord is also home to (national football champions) De La Salle High School for boys and Carondelet High School for girls, Clayton Valley Charter High School, Cal State University East Bay and others.

Concord's downtown area was redeveloped and consists mainly of apartments and condominiums, all close to public transportation. Concord has many smaller neighborhoods, each with their own character. North and east of downtown is Concord's oldest residential area, with homes dating back to the early 1900s. Southeast of the city is a residential area that was mainly developed in the 1960s and 1970s and southwest of downtown is an area called Four Corners, a primarily Latino neighborhood. Northwest and immediately adjacent is the city of Martinez despite there being no defined border.
