Welcome to San Lorenzo
Tucked between the cities of
San Leandro to the north and
Hayward to the south, San Lorenzo is an unincorporated community. The central location offers plentiful services, plus convenient access to the many East Bay amenities and recreational opportunities. Retail spaces, inviting culinary options and service providers boost the allure of the business district. Commuting to San Jose or San Francisco is simplified with easy access to freeways and the Bayfair BART station.
Originally part of an 1841 Spanish land grant, during the Gold Rush era, fortune seekers lived as squatters on the Rancho, giving rise to the nickname of Squattersville. San Lorenzo was a significant producer of fruit and flowers up until the mid-20th century.
During World War II, the considerable demand for worker housing led to the construction of San Lorenzo Village. Primarily two and three-bedroom homes and developed under contract to the U.S. Navy, it was one of the first planned communities in the country, and is still overseen by the
San Lorenzo Village Homeowners Association.
The outstanding East Bay climate is easy to savor in San Lorenzo. Hiking, biking and birdwatching are all popular on the San Lorenzo segment of the
Bay Trail or along the San Lorenzo Creek. A par course, picnicking, a playground and more can be enjoyed at the
San Lorenzo Community Park. The
San Lorenzo Library has been doubled in size with the recent renovation.
