It’s almost Thanksgiving, and along with the turkey comes a flood of fun holiday events. There are so many things to eat, do and buy in Oakland, Berkeley and all of the East Bay, it’s almost impossible to list all East Bay Thanksgiving events. Here’s a quick collection that covers the next few weeks.
Get Stuffed
- Berkeleyside has a nice round-up of restaurants that will be serving Thanksgiving dinner. In Berkeley check out FIVE, and in Oakland there’s Lungomare and the Lake Chalet. And if you’re looking to lay off cooking the night before, check out Homestead’s clam bake on November 25.
Get Out Your Wallet
- Montclair Village is holding its Sip & Shop Thursdays every Thursday through December 17 (except Thanksgiving, of course).
- Plaid Friday is Oakland’s answer to “Black Friday.” It’s a chance to support local businesses by shopping on Friday, November 27.
- To help you along, Oakland is offering free parking every Saturday between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, as well as the Friday after Thanksgiving.
- Get in the ice at the Gourmet Ghetto’s snow day. It’ll be held on December 6, 10am-3pm.
- And at the Rockridge in the Snow event on November 28, 3-6pm, you'll find snow, pony rides, entertainment and — shopping!
Get Outside
- The East Bay Regional Park District got inspired by REI and is making all 65 of its parks free on Friday the 27. Learn more here.
- Go ice skating at the Little Ice Rink at Alameda’s South Shore Shopping Center. Open through January 18.
Get Bright
- Piedmont will hold its holiday tree lighting on December 2, 7pm, at the Community Center.
- Jack London Square will hold its tree lighting ceremony on December 4, 5-7pm.
- Berkeley will hold its fourth Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony on December 4, 5:30-6:30pm, at Downtown Berkeley BART Plaza.
- Emeryville will hold its Winter Wonderland Parade and Holiday Tree Lighting on December 4, 5-7:30pm. The parade starts at 53rd Street & Boyer and heads to Hollis & Park for the tree lighting.
- The Downtown San Leandro Association will hold its tree lighting at It’s a Wonderful Night, December 4, 5:30-9pm.
- Alameda will hold its 39th annual Lighted Yacht Parade on December 5, 5:30pm, on the Oakland/Alameda Estuary.
- See the Circle of Lights at the Mountain View Cemetery, held each night December 1 through New Year’s Day, 5-9pm.
- It’s not just Fairyland – it’s a Fairy Winterland! December 4-20, Fri-Sun, 12-7pm. Performances and a festival of lights parade each day at 6:15 – check the link for more information.
- And no Oakland holiday would be complete without the Oakland Zoo Lights. It will be held each evening December 4-January 3, 5:30-9pm.
You can see other lists of events from the Contra Costa Times, SFGate and the Daily Cal. We’ll release another blog post in a few weeks that will list some of the best holiday events this year.
And more than anything, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
