Want to enjoy fresh eggs and support a worthy cause at the same time? Check out the eggs from Sienna Ranch, a privately owned, 21-acre ranch in Lafayette that encourages children’s connection to nature. Founded in 2008 by a local homeschooling family who began organizing outings with naturalists and kids to explore the local area, the business has since grown to include programs such as gardening, woodshop, archery, horseback riding, pottery, homesteading, and working with farm animals.
In addition to being an “oasis of serenity, nature, and calm in the middle of suburbia,” the ranch also sells eggs from its chickens, which are fed a vegetarian diet and have access to free range. Only about four to six dozen eggs are for sale each week between the months of April and October, so be sure to call their office to reserve your dozen ($6 each) on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. While you’re at it, sign your child up to one of their after-school programs, summer camps, or home-schooling programs, or have their school organize a field trip there. They even do birthday parties.
