Over the past ten months, Red Oak agents and staff members have gathered to help one of our Red Oak Opportunity Fund (ROOF) recipients bring equitable food access and educational opportunities to the city of Berkeley. Volunteering with the organization Rebuilding Together: East Bay Network (RTEBN), our crews have participated in helping to create the West Berkeley Urban Garden.
In partnership with the City of Berkeley and other community partners and contributors, the project’s main goals are to help end food insecurity by providing nutritious high quality fruits and vegetables to local neighbors and providing a safe and beautiful space for community members to gather and learn about growing their own produce. This zero-waste garden models environmental stewardship while minimizing the ecological footprint.
From fence building to irrigation, weeding and clean-up to actual planting, some of our agents even used a jackhammer for the very first time! We’ve been thrilled to be a part of this exciting project.
Our volunteers are putting in one more day before the grand opening of the garden which will be held on Saturday, May 18th, 2024. All are welcome to join Rebuilding Together for this exciting unveiling!
At Red Oak we are committed to work alongside our community members. Whether it’s to provide opportunities like our annual blood drives, warm coat and toy collections, Red Oak Movie Nights, participation in local events and fundraisers, or through financial donations through ROOF, Red Oak agents and staff members are always looking for ways to participate and give back.
