It's important we exercise our right to vote whether it's by mail-in ballot, ballot drop-off or physically going to the polls - your vote counts! Here are just a few things to keep in mind during this voting season.
First, fill out your ballot properly so your vote isn’t thrown out. Filling out your ballot in the wrong ink is merely one way you’ll be disqualified, so make sure you have a black inked pen on hand. Don’t forget to sign your envelope using the signature the state has on file. If there are any required documents be sure to include those. And above all, send your ballot as soon as you can.
If you plan to return your ballot by mail be sure to give it plenty of time to arrive at the county election office. As long as it is postmarked on or before Election Day, your vote will be counted. Another option is to visit a ballot drop box which is available 24/7 until Tuesday, November 3rd at 8 PM. Note that many indoor drop boxes may have limited accessibility. To check out the nearest ballot drop box go to Contra Costa County and Alameda County.
Alameda County offers a drive-through and drop-off system that allows you to drop off your ballot to polling personnel. The Ballot Drop Stop is located at Rene C. Davidson Courthouse at 1225 Fallon Street, Oakland. Drop ballots off Monday through Friday through Election Day, from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. The weekend before the Election on Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st you can stop by between 9 AM to 5 PM. On Election Day, November 3rd, hours extend from 7 AM to 8 PM.
Polling stations are open for early voting Saturday, October 31st to Monday, November 2nd from 9 AM to 5 PM and Tuesday, November 3rd, 7 AM to 8 PM in Alameda County. For Contra Costa County, early voting is Friday, October 30th from 11 AM to 7 PM, Saturday, October 31st from 9 AM-5 PM and Monday, November 2nd from 11 AM-7 PM at select locations. Otherwise be sure to vote on Election Day from 7 AM to 8 PM at Contra Costa County polling locations.
