Alameda California
Many homes on the
family-friendly island of Alameda are within walking distance to
the beaches and afford spectacular bay and cityscape views. With
its leafy streets lined with older Victorian style buildings and
cottages, pretty parks, good schools, six miles of beaches, and
the ability to ride your bike anywhere on the island with ease,
you can see why this rapidly growing city manages to maintain
its small town charm.
While Alameda offers modern retail shops and conveniences, what
residents really find appealing are the historic business
districts. Antique shops, playhouses and quaint businesses line
the streets, and people come from miles away to experience the
hometown atmosphere. It's not unusual to see an entire family
ride their bikes into town for a breakfast of blueberry waffles
at the local diner or homemade treats and the old-fashioned ice
cream parlor. And don't be surprised if the clerks at the mom
and pop grocery store call you "Sweetie" or a neighbor brings
you a pie on the Fourth of July. Alameda is a very friendly
place.
Many Alamedans enjoy spectacular commutes into San Francisco by
ferry. Other public transportation includes busses and BART.
During light traffic, San Francisco is about 15 minutes by car,
and the city of Oakland is a 10-minute drive.
